The native people of Saguenay-Lac-St-Jean tell a story that the Wendigo was challenged by heroes from local tribes. Helped by Uitiku, a good and courageous spirit, they fought the Wendigo. The giants flung huge pieces of mountains at each other; some of which fell into the Lac-St-Jean. This created the numerous islands in this large lake. The heroes cornered the Wendigo into a cave that partially collapsed burying the Wendigo. This cave is now a local attraction called "le trou de la fée" or "Fairy's Hole".
